Men’s League Rules and Important Information

    Broom Pads

    • No Hair brooms and the use of the “extreme” Jimmy heads from Leaside will not be allowed (if you know what I am meaning then you know which ones would be classified as “extreme”). Non “extreme” Jimmy heads will be allowed, and conforming Jimmy fabric is allowed.
    • All broom fabric from major manufacturers, Heads Up by Jimmy MacMillan and broom pads sold at our pro shop are acceptable.
    • We will not be policing sweeping technique, so teams will be able to directionally sweep.

    Sparing

    • Two players from the original registered team must be used in each game.
    • If you cannot field a team games may be rescheduled. The non-offending team must make every reasonable effort to reschedule the game.
    • Please contact the curling office if you are cancelling a game or rescheduling a game.
    • Please access the spare list on the website https://donaldacurling.ca/index.php/league-information/sub-lists?view=spareslists&id=4. Any male curler that plays in the evening is eligible, but start with the spare list and you may ask players from teams that have the week off.  There are teams that don’t play on any given week.
    • A back-end (skip & third) player may sub for a back-end player
    • A front-end player may sub for any player
    • When selecting a spare please try to find a like for like replacement. (Please don’t ask the skip of the club champions to skip your team in C division).

    Pace of Play

    • You may start your game when the numbers are down from the scoreboard, you don’t need to wait for the designated start time.
    • You may begin your game with three players and your fourth can join in when he arrives. If it is mid end and he arrives to throw one of his rocks he may do so and sweep rocks for his teammates.  If all of his rocks have been thrown he may sweep and the team can change the delivery order at the beginning of the subsequent end and only at this time.
    • If a team cannot begin the game after 10 minutes beyond the scheduled draw time the non-offending must hang one point on the scoreboard and the first end is considered played. The non-offending team will begin the second end with last rock and choice of colour. For every ten minutes late, another point is awarded to the non-offending team.  After 30 minutes the game is considered defaulted.
    • Teams are allotted 1 hour and 40 minutes to complete six ends. At this time a buzzer will sound and the clock will flash 0:00:00.  When the buzzer sounds the teams will complete the end they are playing and play one more.  Note:  An end is considered over when the last rock of the end comes to rest or goes out of play.

    Results

    • After your game please add your results to the website, win, lose or tie and how many ends each team won.

    Playoff Rules

    Tiebreakers for Playoff Seeding

    • For the playoffs, teams will be seeded by total points over the entire season.  For teams tied for qualification into Championship division or tied for the qualification into the top eight seeds of the Championship division, a tiebreaker game will be scheduled at a mutually agreeable time between the competing teams.  If there is a tie for the seeding in either bracket other than the previous ties mentioned, the tie will be broken as follows:

    1. Record Between the Tied Teams (over the entire season)
    2. Total Wins (over the entire season)
    3. Ends Between the Tied Teams (over the entire season)
    4. Total Ends (over the entire season)
    5. Coin Toss

    Games

    • The higher ranked team in each playoff game will receive last rock and the choice of colour for all games throughout the playoffs.

    Sparing in the Playoffs

    • Teams must first use their registered 5th or 6th player(s).  He may play any position.
    • If you are unable to use your designated 5th or 6th player, you may get a spare from another team (spare can be from a team in either draw – e.g. A Doug McGregor division team can get a spare from a Championship division team). All spares must be registered to play in the Men’s League.
    • Back end players (skips and vices) are only allowed to spare for other back end players; however, for the playoffs all spares must play lead or, in the case of two spares, lead and second.
    • Teams may play as 3 players should they choose to. First two players will throw 3 rocks and the last player will throw the last 2 rocks in each end.
    • Spares for the playoffs have to be approved by the Men’s Committee.  If a Committee member is involved in the game in question, they will recuse themselves from the decision.
